On Saturday, September 6, 2025, thousands will gather at Military Park in Indianapolis for the Indianapolis Out of the Darkness Walk, a powerful event that brings together families, friends, and advocates from across Central Indiana. With more than 1,400 participants, 220 teams, and 900 donations already received, this walk is more than just a day in the park. It’s a movement of hope and healing for those affected by suicide.
Organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP Indiana), the walk unites people from all corners of the state, offering connection, resources, and the shared goal of ending the silence surrounding mental health.
The event begins at 12:30 PM with registration and community activations. At 1:30 PM, participants will gather for the Honor Bead Ceremony, a moment to recognize the personal connections and experiences that bring people together for this cause. The Opening Ceremony follows at 2:30 PM, and the walk officially begins at 3:00 PM.
Suicide touches every age, background, and community. The Indianapolis Out of the Darkness Walk is a chance to take meaningful action to raise funds, increase awareness, and show those struggling that they are not alone. Every step and every dollar raised supports AFSP’s work in research, education, advocacy, and survivor support.
There are many ways to get involved. You can participate by registering online, with no fee to attend a community walk. You can volunteer to help with set-up, guide walkers along the route, or support event logistics by emailing indyoutofthedarkness@gmail.com.
